Cerpintxt x Stephan Barrett Pt. 1 | Radio #22
Colliding Lines present live sessions, cross-genre collaborations and left-field recordings drawn from the London, UK and international experimental scenes; a long-form love letter to recorded audio as soundtrack, as sound art and as storyteller.
On this month’s show we’ll be broadcasting Part 1 of a remote collaboration between Cerpintxt and Stephan Barrett commissioned by Colliding Lines. Beginning with an open-ended process of exchanging and recomposing each others’ recordings, the two found focus in unequal temperament systems, phonetic composition, sound poetry and aleatoric methods of sonic disintegration. In this first part, Cerpintxt composed a piece using extracts of Stephan’s recorded fragments and tape loops incorporated with her own sounds to create an exponentially regressive vocal terrain that is the backdrop against which instrumental slivers of hydrophones, clarinet and kacapi flicker. She incorporated her technique of ‘playback destruction’ by sounding the piece in a room including a vase with a seismic microphone placed within it, picking up residues of sounds which reach its threshold, deconstructing and feeding back the material into itself.
Following on from this, we’ll be re-playing recordings from the Colliding Lines archive, namely our 2018 ‘Shadowplay’ tour. Performed by Jacob Kyriakides, Reuben Kyriakides and guests.
Colliding Lines airs on Resonance Extra on the third Thursday of every month, with listen back options for all of our shows on Mixcloud, Soundcloud, and wherever you get your podcasts.
