Laura McGarrigle has contributed a soundtrack to Giles Walker and Candice Tripp’s exhibition I’m Never Shopping Here Again, a vast, hellish tableau situated in the tunnels near Waterloo station. Laura’s mournful piano accompanies the ominous rumble of trains, and sounds as audience weave the way through a crowd of vacant, animatronic overcoats as they shuffle towards some undisclosed fate.
Giles Walker’s kinetic sculptures and masterful animatronic creations are joined by Candice Tripp’s vivid paintings, together creating a dark fairytale for audiences to investigate. Children in masks loiter, while skeletal birdmen are seen to clamber around the scenes. A mannequin rocks an empty carriage to sleep and, even darker, two decapitated corpses hang from the ceiling, writhing as if in the throes of death.
The exhibition was captured on film, scored by Laura’s piece, which you can view below.
