Live Photos: Murmuration with Circuit Cambridge
Photographer Josh Murfitt has shared shots from Murmuration, an event curated in collaboration with Circuit Cambridge at Kettle’s Yard. The evening presented live music, dance and spoken word inspired by the work of artist Henri Gaudier-Brzeska and the New Rhythms exhibition.
Performers included Daisy T-G, Henri Salonen, Andy Fraser, Cambridge Contemporary Dance, Filipa Pereira Stubbs, Russell J Turner, & Gōshawks. The event was organised and programmed by Wesley Freeman-Smith and members of Circuit.
Gōshawks – Jacob Kyriakides, Will Crosby and Chris Brown – performed a piece called ‘Interactions’. Will Crosby synopsizes as follows: “A performance which addresses and responds to several profound themes present within the work of the French artist. These themes will be reenacted sonically via field recordings, natural sounds, acoustic improvisation, and sound manipulation. This will be accompanied by a live video-art piece which explores the various textures found in Gaudier-Brzeska’s work through processed found and recording video clips, coupled with Ezra Pound’s Vorticist poem ‘Dance Figure’ (1917). Everything is spontaneous, everything is pure, everything is voyeuristic.”
Circuit is a national programme led by Tate and funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation working with 15-25 year olds, experimenting with different ways of making art and running creative events. Cambridge’s branch work with Kettle’s Yard and Wysing Arts Centre.
