Glasgow-based Kapil Seshasayee is a one man combination of Scott Walker, Mark Hollis, Arca and Richard Dawson. Combining Big Black style drum machine beats with Carnatic guitar ornamentations, stunning vocals and a penchant for unorthodox instrumentation such as the aquaphone, Kapil creates something truly unique.
His latest project, concept album A Sacred Bore, is a piercing examination of India’s caste system and the practices still prevalent at home and in diaspora. With caustic wit and insight the work explores multiple issues from abusive treatment towards lower caste Indians, to often-overlooked connections between the American far-right and upper-caste Indians and honor killings committed in diaspora which continue to be under-reported.
