Shadowplay at Sonically Depicting | GLASGOW
As part of our Scotland Tour we are excited to join Sonically Depicting for a night of sound and vision at The Old Hairdressers, presenting Shadowplay – a live literary experiment in sensory deprivation.
Shadowplay is a unique performance – a post-apocalyptic fable composed of nothing but written word and a thunderous, dystopian soundscape improvised by sound artists Reuben and Jacob Kyriakides. Suspended in a dark auditorium, the audience are alone save for white words projected into the pitch black canvas. Around them a soundtrack emerges, scoring urgent scenes told in broken, staccato sentences. It is a story about the power of language to make reality and, inevitably, undo it – a story about the power of stories, told in words that are tearing themselves apart.
This evening Kyriakides welcome cellist, serial improviser and Colliding Lines artist Derek Yau as third member of the Shadowplay ensemble. Derek was one of the original performers for the piece’s debut at Art Language Location, 2015.
Sonically Depicting are a DIY not-for-profit events group promoting and curating unusual music, sound and performance from a wide variety of genres. This evening we join the excellent Ingrid Plum, Vernon & Burns and Hardworking Families.
