Gaze is Ghost + Elephants on Tape | LEIPZIG

“Gaze is Ghost’s music is ethereal, supernatural… a graceful and beautiful meditation evident of a musician operating as sculptor.”

Laura McGarrigle is a pianist, composer and songwriter born in Northern Ireland. Under recording name Gaze is Ghost she creates gently beautiful, otherworldly music – performing live with piano, voice and vocal loops.

Her debut album Plume was released from Paris, singles Revolvere / Murmuration from Northern Ireland, and latest release Feather and Bone from Edinburgh, where she currently resides. Along the way she has written musicals, composed soundtracks for animatronic installations in vast London tunnels and performed with dancers, poets and video artists. Her live performances range from candle-lit harmonium recitals in 12th century chapels to immersive, audio-visual set pieces.

A solo set is followed by a collaborative contemporary dance performance with Tania Pirania, and accompaniment from members of art-pop punk group MOUTH.

Looking into the music of ELEPHANTS ON TAPE under a microscope, one would find electronic and analog bacteria, cultivated to a new load of cells: an indietronical microorganism – mixed with minimalism and depth of details, slightly enriched with energetic roughness. The band’s songs picture great me-and-you issues, embedded into beats and far-reaching sounds and samples. Music that keeps turning around it’s own axis and seldom follows common patterns.

The duo-setup of ELEPHANTS ON TAPE represents the band’s unmistakable sound in a compact version.
